Jean-Pierre Freillon-Poncein (* around 1655 , † around 1720 in France ) was a French composer and oboist of the Baroque.

Live and act

Freillon-Poncein was first court musician in the service of the Dauphin , later under King Louis XIV he was head of the band of the Grande Écurie du Roy .

He was best known through the publication of a textbook published in Paris in 1700 (2nd edition 1792) under the title “ La véritable manière d'apprendre à jouer en perfection du haut-bois, de la flûte et du flageolet, avec les principes de la music pour la voix et pour toutes sortes d'instrumens ”. This treatise is of particular importance as one of the first textbooks for the oboe . It serves as an important source for contemporary articulation, phrasing, and ornamentation in wind instruments. For the French flageolet it is an important source of historical fingering, which underwent only minor changes from around 1700 to the end of the 19th century.
