Jean-Robert Tyran (born April 29, 1967 in Zurich ) is a Swiss economist . He is Professor of Public Finance at the Institute for Economics and Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs at the University of Vienna . His main research interests lie in the areas of behavioral economics and experimental economics .

Life

Tyran completed his doctorate in economics at the University of Zurich in 1997. He was then a junior lecturer at the University of St. Gallen until 2004 , with research stays at the University of Amsterdam , the London School of Economics , the University of Lyon and the Stockholm School of Economics and the Harvard Kennedy School . After completing his habilitation in 2004, he was only an associate professor and, from 2005, a full professor at the University of Copenhagen . Since 2007 Jean-Robert Tyran has been the director of the Internet Laboratory for Experimental Economics (iLEE) there, which he founded. From 2008 to 2014 he was director of the Center for Experimental Economics at the University of Copenhagen. He received offers from the Universities of Strasbourg , Utrecht and St. Gallen. In 2010 he was appointed full professor at the Institute for Economics at the University of Vienna . Since 2011 he has also been director of the Vienna Center for Experimental Economics (VCEE).

From 2014 to 2016 Tyran acted as Vice Dean for Research and from 2016 to 2018 as Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Vienna. In 2018 he was appointed Vice Rector for Research and International Affairs.

Tyran has published over 50 scientific articles to date and is a fellow at several research institutes including the CEPR in London. He is also a member of the editorial board of several specialist journals. In 2004 he was awarded the "Prix Latsis Universitaire" from the University of St. Gallen.
