The Kalbenstein in the nature reserve Grainberg-Kalbenstein and Saupurzel near Gambach in the Bavarian district of Main-Spessart is 295 m above sea level. NHN high elevation of the Main valley , on which the summit cross Edelweiss and the limestone profile Kalbenstein are located.
Geographical location
The Kalbenstein is an impact slope of the Main and lies above the railway line and the federal road 26 between Karlstadt and Gambach.
Via ferrata
The Lenzsteig starting at the Falteshütte is a via ferrata to the Edelweiß ( summit cross ) on the Kalbenstein. There is also a climbing garden here .
Kalbenstein shell limestone profile
In 1784, a millennium flood on the Main caused a landslide on the Kalbenstein. As a result, a 90 m thick profile of the succession of limestone and marl rocks of the lower Muschelkalk was exposed.
