Jean André
Jean Géraud André (born June 18, 1916 in Paris , France , † February 22, 1980 ibid) was a French film architect and set designer.
Life
For around 25 years, André was one of the most sought-after production designers in classic French entertainment cinema; Numerous French screen stars of the 50s to 70s moved in his decorations. Immediately after his training in 1944, he joined the film industry as an assistant production designer; his first work was Falbalas by Jacques Becker . Until 1955 André worked preferably under the patronage of his teacher Max Douy , but occasionally he was also allowed to work as an outfitter (e.g. French Can Can ) and in 1951 as a costume designer at Die Rote Herberge .
The end of 1955 began Jean André in Jean Renoir's genre picture White daisies his regular work as chief architect. "André quickly made a name for himself as a pleasant clothing manufacturer, especially with erotic boudoir fabrics à la parisienne or wicked-morbid haute-volée melodramas." While in the 50s and 60s he built several films for productions by Roger Vadim and designed with Brigitte Bardot , there were a number of comedies with Louis de Funès in the mid-1960s and those with Pierre Richard in the late 1970s , which were often directed by Gérard Oury .
