… And always beckons woman (alternative title … and eternally lures woman , original title: Et Dieu… créa la femme ) is a French film from 1956 with Brigitte Bardot and Curd Jürgens in the leading roles.

Premieres, censorship, impact

The film, which was also a great success in America, was her breakthrough on the international stage and founded the myth of "Brigitte Bardot".

When the film was released in the United States in 1957, it attracted a lot of attention because it touched the limits of what was allowed to depict sexuality in a film by the standards of the time. Most of the copies were drastically shortened in order for the film to meet censorship standards.

The film premiered in the Federal Republic of Germany on March 8, 1957.

action

The film tells the story of Juliette, an 18-year-old orphan who wants to experience something with men. Due to her lascivious-erotic charisma, she has a great attraction, which she uses skillfully.

One of her admirers is the rich Éric Carradine. He wants to build a new casino in the city, but is hindered by the Tardieu family, who own a piece of land he needs.

Antoine is the eldest son of the Tardieus. When he comes home one weekend, Juliette has a brief affair. Juliette's guardian threatens to send her back to the orphanage. To prevent this from happening, Éric Carradine suggests that Antoine and Juliette marry. Antoine refuses, but his younger brother Michel, who is secretly in love with Juliette, is ready to marry.

Juliette accepts his marriage proposal, although she is in love with his brother Antoine. When Antoine permanently returns home, the tangles begin.

Reviews

"The superficial film is based on a purely materialistic conception of love, is psychologically superficial and full of rumor-like effects."

"Great penny novel, in which BB skillfully stages itself."
