Jane Marken , also Jeanne Marken (born January 13, 1895 in Paris , † December 1, 1976 there ; born Jeanne Berthe Adolphine Crabbe or Jeanne Krab ) was a French actress .

Life

The daughter of a Belgian and a French woman tried in vain at the Paris Conservatory in 1912 . In 1915 she began her stage career at the Théâtre de l'Odéon, to which she belonged until 1920.

She made her film debut in 1912 in Louis Feuillades La course aux millions . In 1919/20 she starred in three films by Georges Monca . While filming, she met Jules Berry in 1920 and married him. Because of his pathological jealousy, she interrupted her acting work until the separation in 1932. She was then particularly known as a film actress, for example as flirtatious Madame Dufoir in Jean Renoir's A Country Party and easy-going Madame Hermine in Marcel Carné's The Children of Olympus . Otherwise she was mainly cast in roles of unpredictable, dodgy female characters, such as the animation girl in Die Schenke zum Vollmond , as a mischievous concierge in In Devil's Claws and as the mean matchmaker Madame Josserand in Always when the light goes out .
