Jean Bartet

Jean Arriet-Bartet (born December 13, 1862 in Gurs ; † 1943 ) was a French opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Bartet studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Joseph Barbot and Alfred Giraudet . In 1893 he made his debut in the role of Nelusco in Giacomo Meyerbeer's opera Die Afrikanerin at the Paris Opera , where he was engaged until around 1910.

He sang many major roles here, as in the Wagner operas Tristan und Isolde the Kurvenal, The Mastersingers of Nuremberg to Kothner and in the Walküre Wotan. He also appeared as Nevers in Meyerbeer's Die Huguenots , as Valentin in Charles Gounod's Faust , as High Priest in Camille Saint-Saëns ' Samson et Dalila , in the title role of Gioacchino Rossini's Guillaume Tell , as Amonasro in Giuseppe Verdi's Aida and as Gunther in Ernest Reyers Sigurd up.

Bartet has also participated in several world premieres at the Paris Opera, such as Jacques Rousseau's La cloche du Rhin in 1898 , Emmanuel Chabriers Briseïs in 1899 and Victorin de Joncières ' Lancelot du Lac in 1900 . Recordings of Bartets are not known.
