Jean Gaudemet

Jean Gaudemet (born September 10, 1908 in Dijon , † May 17, 2001 in Paris ) was a French legal historian.

Life

Gaudemet came from an old French family of scholars. From 1937 to 1964 he was professor of canon law at the University of Strasbourg . From 1950 to 1978 he also taught at the University of Paris II . His main area of ​​research was the early history of canon law . He was an honorary doctor from the Universities of Cracow, Salzburg , Munich, Rome and Madrid. In 1972 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
