Jean Martin was a French automobile racing driver .

Career

Jean Martin was one of the racing drivers who competed in the first Le Mans 24-hour race in 1923 . Martin drove a works -Bignan 11HP Commercial with his partner Philippe de Marne in fifth place overall. At the finish, the two French riders were 16 laps behind the winning pairing André Lagache and René Léonard on a Chenard & Walcker Sport .

In the same year, Jean Martin won the Guipúzcoa Grand Prix , a non-championship race in Sant-Sébastien, Spain.

In 1924 Jean Martin returned to Le Mans and was again a team-mate of de Marne, as a works driver for Bignan. This time he did not reach the full distance of 24 hours. At an early stage of the race, the duo stopped a defective radiator. The 1925 race, which he contested with Henri-Julien Matthys , also ended early. With the Belgian Matthys, Jean Martin finished fourth overall in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race a few weeks after the race at the Sartre .

Nothing is known about Martin's monoposto activities and his last mentioned appearance was in 1936 at the Coupe de Provence , where he finished fifth on a Salmson .
