Jean Nicolas Demarquay (born December 4, 1814 in Longueval ( Picardy ), † June 21, 1875 ibid) was a French surgeon and author of extensive scientific reports on studies in his field.

He was the first to detect roundworms in the blood of patients in 1863 and in the urine of 1866. He was a friend and research colleague of the zoologist Auguste Duméril , who was about the same age , with whom he published a work on experimental studies of changes in the temperature balance of animals through the introduction of various therapeutic agents. He had also written his doctoral thesis on this subject in 1847. He was then chief physician at the Dubois Hospital, now the Hôpital Fernand-Widal . He became interested in hypnosis and published extensively on various operative procedures. In 1866 he presented a paper on oxygen therapy .
