Jean Piaubert
Jean Piaubert (born January 27, 1900 in Bordeaux , France , † January 28, 2002 in Paris ), was a French painter and graphic artist . He is one of the most important representatives of abstract art after the Second World War .
Life
Jean Piaubert attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux from 1918 . After completing his military service, he moved to Paris in 1922 and continued his studies at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière .
When he arrived in Paris, Piaubert was still a landscape painter who also borrowed his stylistic devices from constructivism . In the years between 1933 and 1943 his style is not entirely clear; after 1945 he only began to paint abstractly .
Jean Piaubert had his first solo exhibition in 1932 at the Galerie Zack in Paris. In the 1950s, his art attracted international attention. It is shown at numerous international exhibitions, including documenta 2 in Kassel in 1959 . In addition to paintings , drawings and graphics , his works also include tapestries .
Jean Piaubert died on January 28, 2002 in Paris at the age of 102 and one day.
