Jean Bompar de Lastic , also Ioannes Lasticensis, Iohannes de Lastico , (* 1371 in Auvergne ; † 19 May 1454 ) was the 36th Grand Master of the Order of St. John from November 6, 1437 until his death in 1454 .

He was inducted into the order before 1390 and spent the first years of the order in Rhodes and in priories in the Auvergne before becoming Grand Prior of the Auvergne tongue , based in Bourganeuf . Massive fortifications were built there under him.

Jean was elected Grand Master in absentia in 1437 and did not reach Rhodes until 1438.

In 1440 and 1444, naval units of the Egyptian Mamluk sultan Jaqmaq attacked Rhodes, but were repulsed both times. Thereupon Jean initiated massive reinforcements of the fortifications in the port of Rhodes and the construction of the fortress St. Nicolas .

The construction of a new hospital began under Jean de Lastic. With the new building there was also a renewal of the nursing regulations. The management of the hospital was the responsibility of the Infirmiere or Kommendator of the hospital, to whom two Prodomi were added, who together with him took over the administration of the hospital. They wrote house rules that were written on parchment and posted in the hospital for all to see. Members of the order and secular persons were treated equally in the hospital and all had to comply with the rules applicable in the convent.
