Jeanne Black
Jeanne Black (* 25. October 1937 as Gloria Jeanne Black in Pomona , California ; † 23. October 2014 in Orem , Utah ) was an American country music singer .
Music career
At the age of almost 19, Jeanne Black became known nationwide in 1956 through an appearance on the TV show Cliffie Stone's Hometown Jamboree . Engagements in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas followed , and a collaboration with guitarist Billy Strange began . 1960 Jeanne Black received a recording contract with Capitol Records , where the first single was released in April 1960. The A-side with Black as the soloist was entitled He'll Have to Stay , on the B-side she sang the title Under Your Spell Again in a duet with a certain Janie Black . He'll Have to Stay was a so-called answer song to the Jim Reeves hit He'll Have to Go . While Reeves demands in his song that his rival has to go, Jeanne Black replies: "He will stay!" Just like the original title, the audience liked the answer song, it reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was recorded for a total of eleven weeks. In the country charts, the title landed on 6th and in Rhythm & Blues on 11th place. He'll Have to Stay was a million-dollar success and was awarded the gold record .
He'll Have To Stay was Black's only big record. The follow-up single Lisa / Journey of Love , also in a duet with Janie Black, reached number 43 on the Hot 100. In late 1960, Capitol tried another answer song, this time to Elvis Presley's Are You Lonesome Tonight? . Jeanne Black was called Oh, How I Miss You Tonight , and the title came in 63rd. Black's last single on Capitol Records, A Letter to Anya / Guessin 'Again , was released in January 1962, no further single recordings are known. Capitol had an LP with the title A Little Bit Lonely in 1961 with catalog no. Published in 1513.
