Jeanne Jugan
The holy Jeanne Jugan , also Sister Marie of the Cross , (* 25. October 1792 in the hamlet Petites-Croix in Cancale , Brittany , France ; † 29. August 1879 in Saint-Servan , France) was a French nun and a saint of catholic church . Her Catholic feast day in the liturgy is August 30th .
Life
Jeanne Jugan, the sixth of eight children from a fishing and sailor family, founded the congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor (French: Petites Sœurs des Pauvres ) in Saint-Servan near Saint-Malo in 1842 , which is involved in the social and charitable sector. In 1879 the religious community was established by Pope Leo XIII. accepted. On December 8, 1843, she was elected first matron; later she lived as a simple sister Mary of the Cross.
Jeanne Jugan was beatified on October 3, 1982 by Pope John Paul II and on October 11, 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. canonized .
