Jef Nys (born January 30, 1927 in Berchem , Belgium , † October 20, 2009 in Wilrijk , Belgium) was a Belgian comic artist and author. He became known through his comic series Jommeke , which was initially distributed in German-speaking countries under the title Peter and Alexander .

Born in the Berchem district of Antwerp , Nys first studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and worked from 1946 to 1954 as a cartoonist, caricaturist and comic artist for the satirical weekly newspaper 't Pallieterke , which he reached through a competition. In 1955, Nys published his first Jommeke adventure in the Catholic weekly newspaper Kerk en Leven , for which he subsequently created several biographical comics , which were to be followed by several more, including in other newspapers such as ' t Kapoentje and Het Volk . Over the years, various assistants have been employed by Nys to support his extensive production - Jommeke alone has released over 270 albums to date. In 2005 Nys was awarded the Golden Adhemar for his oeuvre at the comic festival in Turnhout, Belgium .
