Jacobs became known as a member of The Drift formation , with whom he toured Europe, Japan, Canada and the United States and contributed to a number of albums. The band was originally a side project by Danny Grody and Trevor Montgomery, located after leaving Montgomery with the entrances of Jacobs and Safa Shokrai (bass) and Rich Douthit (drums) from the ambient music to a Dub - Jazz developed -Rock ensemble . He also worked as a chef in various restaurants in San Francisco. Jacobs succumbed to cancer in January 2011.

The extensive instrumental repetitions of Jacobs and the drift musician included experimental electronica , jazz-influenced post-rock, and abstract soundscapes. Jeff Jacobs' trumpet and its accompanying electronic sounds are occasionally reminiscent of the music of the "electric" Miles Davis in the Bitches Brew phase around 1970.
