Jelena Sergejewna Sokolova ( Russian Елена Сергеевна Соколова; English transcription Elena Sokolova ; born February 15, 1980 in Moscow ) is a former Russian figure skater who started in a single run .

Sokolowa started ice skating when she was four years old. Your first coach was Viktor Kudryavzew at SC Moskvich. She later went to Saint Petersburg to see Alexei Mishin . In 1997 she played her first world championship , at which she was eighth, a year later she repeated this and took part in her first Olympic Games in Nagano . There she took seventh place. In the years from 1999 to 2002 she was unable to qualify for international competitions due to the strong national competition. After suffering a concussion in a training accident in the summer of 2002 , she even wanted to end her ice skating career. However, her mother convinced her otherwise. In the fall of 2002, she went back to her original coach Viktor Kudryavtsev. It should pay off, because in 2003 Sokolova became Russian champion for the first time, even beating Irina Sluzkaja . She was then very narrowly defeated at the European Championships in Malmö and won the silver medal. She also managed to do this at the World Cup in Washington , but behind Michelle Kwan . It remained her only medal at world championships . At European Championships she was able to win two medals with bronze in 2004 and silver in 2006 . In 2004 and 2006 she was again Russian champion. At her second Olympic Games in Turin , she finished 14th. In 2007 she ended her competitive career.

Jelena Sokolova studied television journalism.
