Jen Armbruster

Jennifer Armbruster (born February 12, 1975 in Taipei , Taiwan ) is an American goalball player .

Life

Armbruster was born in 1975 in Taiwan, where her father was stationed. In her childhood the family had to move often due to changes of stationing, most recently to Colorado . There Armbruster, who grew up with a sister, attended Falcon High School in Peyton and graduated in 1993. She then studied at the University of Northern Colorado , where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1997 . She received a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Sam Houston State University in 2000 .

Armbruster is mother of one son. She is married to her teammate Asya Miller .

Athletic career

Armbruster wanted to go to college in 1989 with a basketball scholarship . However, at the end of the year she began to lose her eyesight due to inflammation of the optic nerve . So it came about that she came into contact with goalball. In April 1990 she was asked to play the sport, and that same year her team finished second in the national championships.

Armbruster first represented the United States at the Paralympic Games in 1992 and has since participated continuously, most recently in 2016 . With the women's goalball team, she won bronze in 1996 , silver in 2004 and gold in 2008 . At the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing , she acted as the flag bearer.

Armbruster was inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame , the State of Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, and the Colorado Women's Sports Hall of Fame .
