Jennifer Miller

Jennifer Miller (* 1961 ) is an American circus - entertainer , writer , she taught at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of World Arts and Cultures. She is a beard woman , juggler , and fire eater . Miller lives in New York City .

Miller is the youngest daughter of Jewish Quaker converts and grew up in Connecticut and California . Miller began her involvement in the performing arts and theater during high school and has been part of the downtown dance scene in New York since the early 1980s. In her career as a performing artist, which spans over 20 years, she has appeared with numerous choreographers and dancers , various circuses and in the Coney Island SideShow .

In 1989 , she founded the acclaimed New York political cast, Circus Amok , which she has led ever since. She was also the focus of the documentary Juggling Gender by Tami Gold , and numerous other documentaries were made about the Circus Amok. Miller receives extensive recognition for her work, she has received various awards, including a. the Obie , Bessie, BAX 10 and most recently the Ethyl Eichelberger Award. She currently teaches at the Pratt Institute in New York , and has taught at other universities including UCLA, Cal Arts , Scripps College , and New York University .
