Jennifer de Temmerman (born February 16, 1977 in Valenciennes ) is a French politician who has represented the 15th constituency of the North since the 2017 parliamentary election in the National Assembly .

Youth, professional career

She grew up in an earlier " colliery colony " ( coron ) of Anzin in the Nord department before the family moved to Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes in the same department.

While studying at the University of Lille III , de Temmerman did an apprenticeship as a bookseller. After taking the CAPES exam, she taught classical philology for twelve years.

Political career

On June 18, 2017, de Temmerman was elected to the National Assembly in the 15th constituency north. She received 60.76% of the vote in the second ballot and was well ahead of the FN candidate .

In Parliament, de Temmerman is a member of the Sustainable Development Committee.

She has been a member of the French parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2017 . In the Assembly she works in the Committee on Social Issues, Health and Sustainable Development and in the sub-committee of the European Social Charter . She is also the Assembly's rapporteur on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In November 2019, de Temmerman resigned from the LREM faction; she remained a non-attached MP. In May 2020 she was one of the 17 founders of the new parliamentary group of the Écologie Democratie Solidarité group in the National Assembly.

Political positions

In April 2018, de Temmerman was among the signatories of a motion to set up a committee of inquiry into the legality of French arms deliveries for the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen since 2015 (spokesman for the motion: Sébastien Nadot ), a few days before the Saudi state visit Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Paris.

In September 2018, she supported Barbara Pompili's candidacy for the parliamentary presidency after François de Rugy had become a member of the government.

In July 2019, de Temmerman was one of 52 LREM Members of Parliament to abstain from voting on the ratification of the EU's Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Canada.

In November 2019, de Temmerman criticized the government's new immigration policy. In the National Assembly she asked the rhetorical question: "Will we perfect humanity this morning?" Together with ten other MPs from LREM, she signed a declaration denying government action in the field of immigration, particularly in relation to health and medical care (AME).
