Jens Gnisa

Jens Gnisa (born May 19, 1963 in Bielefeld ) is a German judge and director of the Bielefeld District Court since 2012 . From April 2016 until the end of 2019 he was chairman of the German Association of Judges (DRB).

Life

Gnisa grew up in Bielefeld and graduated from high school there in 1982. From 1983 he studied law with a focus on business and labor law at Bielefeld University . In 1990 he graduated with the second state examination. Gnisa was employed by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as a probationary judge . On September 13, 1993 he was appointed judge for life at the Paderborn District Court . From 1998 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2012 Gnisa worked at the Paderborn Regional Court . From 2002 to 2007 he was a judge at the Hamm Higher Regional Court , where he was primarily entrusted with family and administrative matters. After returning to the Paderborn Regional Court, he was appointed Vice President of the Regional Court on September 27, 2007. In 2012 he moved to his hometown Bielefeld, where he was appointed director of the Bielefeld District Court. In addition to managing the authorities, Gnisa works as a judge in civil and foreclosure matters.

Gnisa is married and has three children.

Functions

With the change to the OLG Hamm, Gnisa took over the function of the managing director of the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia of the German Association of Judges (DRB). At the same time he was elected deputy chairman. In 2005 he gave up the office of managing director because he was elected regional chairman of the DRB in North Rhine-Westphalia. He held this office until 2008. In 2010 Gnisa was elected to the Presidium of the German Association of Judges, of which he was deputy chairman from 2013. In April 2016, the Federal Representative Assembly of the DRB elected him as chairman of the association. During his tenure, the pact for the rule of law was concluded on January 31, 2019 , with which the federal and state governments intend to strengthen the judiciary on a sustainable basis by 2021. On December 31, 2019, Gnisa resigned from the office of DRB chairman in order to run for the office of district administrator in the Lippe district in the municipal elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. Gnisa is a member of the CDU and was chairman of the CDU municipal association Horn-Bad Meinberg as well as a member of the federal party court of the CDU.
