Jens Winther (racing driver)
Jens Winther (born December 25, 1938 in Roskilde ) is a former Danish racing driver .
Roskilde Ring
At the age of 15 years Jens Winther trained with his motocross - motorcycle regularly in a disused gravel pit near Roskilde . Only a few months later, this area became Denmark's first permanent motorsport race track, the Roskilde Ring .
Career in motorsport
Winthers career began in the early 1960s. For almost a decade he was active almost exclusively in his home country. In 1962 he became Danish Formula 3 champion and nine years later Danish touring car champion. He became internationally known in the 1980s for his competitions in the World Sports Car Championship . In 1982 he finished seventh in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring and in 1984 ninth in the 1000 km race in Monza . He reached this position in 1985 in Mugello and in 1986 on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring .
He competed four times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . After three retirements, he finished eleventh overall in 1986 .
