Jens Zimmermann (born September 9, 1981 in Groß-Umstadt ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 and digital policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group.

Career

Zimmermann attended the Max Planck School in Groß-Umstadt and was head boy there . After graduating from high school in June 2001, he did community service until 2002 and then studied business administration at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . In April 2007 he completed his studies with a degree in business administration and was a research assistant at Bernd Stauss' chair for service managementuntil 2011. Parallel to his activity, he worked on his dissertation and completed his doctorate in economics and social sciences on “Status and customer loyalty” in February 2013. Until he moved into the Bundestag in September 2013, he worked as a freelance consultant and lecturer .

In 2002 he became deputy sub-district chairman of the Jusos and joined the SPD. During his studies in Ingolstadt, he was elected as a member of the Juso University Group in the extended Senate of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.

In 2006 he was elected to the city council in Groß-Umstadt and re-elected in 2011 and 2016. In 2006 he was elected the youngest committee chairman in the history of the Groß-Umstadt parliament and has since served on various committees. From 2011 to 2016 he also chaired the parliamentary group. He also holds several local and regional posts within the SPD.

Zimmermann has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 . He was drawn in through a compensation mandate on the Hessian state list after he was unable to prevail against the CDU candidate Patricia Lips in the Odenwald constituency . He moved into the Bundestag as the last elected member of the Bundestag after an additional seat was found for the SPD when the final official result was established. In the 18th electoral term, Zimmermann is a member of the finance committee of the German Bundestag, a member of the committee for the digital agenda and a deputy member of the NSA committee of inquiry. Zimmermann also represents the Bundestag on the BaFin Administrative Board . He is a member of the board of the German-British parliamentary group and chairman of the Hessian SPD state group.

In the federal election on September 24, 2017, Zimmermann again entered the German Bundestag via the Hessian state list. As in the previous electoral term, he is a member of the finance committee of the German Bundestag, a member of the committee for the digital agenda and chairman of the Hessian SPD state group. Zimmermann was also elected digital policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group.
