Patricia Lips (born December 21, 1963 in Milan , Italy ) is a German politician ( CDU ). She has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 and heads Friedrich Merz 's team for the application for CDU party leadership.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1983 at the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in Darmstadt , Patricia Lips completed an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk and in 1989 did further training as a commercial specialist . From 1984 to 2000 she worked in the central purchasing department of a wholesale company and from 2000 to 2002 was part of the management of a medium-sized textile trading company.

Lips joined the CDU in 1993. From 1993 to 2013 she was a member of the city council of Rödermark , where she was chairwoman of the CDU parliamentary group from 1997 to 2001 and head of city council from 2001 until she moved into the German Bundestag. From 2005 to 2017 she chaired the CDU in Rödermark, and since 2010 she has also been deputy district chairman of the CDU in the Offenbach-Land district.

She has been chairwoman of the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsvereinigung (MIT) of the CDU in the Offenbach-Land district since 2003 and has been the deputy federal chairwoman of MIT since 2013.

Patricia Lips has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002. She pulled 2002 on the national list Hesse and 2005 as the directly elected members of the constituency Odenwald in the Bundestag one. In the 2005 Bundestag election she received 42 percent of the first votes, 79 more votes than the SPD candidate Erika Ober . She also won the direct mandate in 2009 , 2013 and 2017 .

From 2002 to 2004 she was a member of the Committee on European Union Affairs and from 2004 to 2013 a member of the Finance Committee . From 2014 to 2017 she was chair of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment . Since 2018 she has been a member of the budget committee and chairwoman of the federal funding body in accordance with Section 3 of the Federal Debt Act. She is also a member of the trust committee for the secret budgets of the federal intelligence services .

Patricia Lips has been chairwoman of the Rödermark Home and History Association since 1993 and a member of the administrative board of Sparkasse Dieburg since 2011 . There are also numerous other memberships in clubs and associations in their home region.

On March 13, 2020, Friedrich Merz introduced her as the head of his team for the application for the party leadership of the CDU.
