Family restaurant
Family restaurant ( Japanese フ ァ ミ リ ー レ ス ト ラ ン famirī resutoran , English family restaurant , short: FamiRes フ ァ ミ レ ス famiresu ) is a type of restaurant in the full-service system catering category that occurs specifically in Japan .
Family restaurants belong to the so-called fast-casual restaurant . They are mostly organized in restaurant chains - for example franchise chains - and make use of central kitchens . Since they are characterized by uniformity, the same quality of food and service, the same size of the portions and the same price can be found in the branches of a chain throughout Japan.
Many of the family restaurants are limited to Western food , and the menus mostly feature home-style cooking or simple dishes rather than artistic creations. Since a large number of dishes are sold with a narrow margin, the prices are low.
There is a very large selection of different dishes, and there are also numerous special offers for children. So that families with small children can dine without problems, there are special chairs, plates and cups for children. In family restaurants, the typical Japanese rules of conduct are less important than elsewhere in the Japanese public. When children make a noise, those around them usually don't hold it against the family.
Since the competition between the different chains is very strong, there are sometimes televisions with satellite TV programs that are otherwise chargeable , free wireless Internet access and a so-called drink bar , where you can self-service yourself with unlimited drinks to increase your own attractiveness . Many restaurants are also open all night, so the chains are trying to make their branches even more attractive to guests.
The parking spaces and guest rooms are spacious and you can stay in your place for a long time. Therefore, many people in Japan use family restaurants for private discussion groups, schoolchildren and students like to use the place for study or to do paperwork. The "FamiRes" also offer themselves as a rest stop for drivers during long car journeys .
