Beyond the Walls (Original title: Hors les murs ) is a feature film by director David Lambert from 2012. The Belgian- Canadian-French production dates from 2012 and was released in theaters in Germany the following year (with German subtitles).

Paulo, a young pianist, meets Ilir, a bass player of Albanian origin. After they get to know each other, everyone feels violent feelings for the other. Paulo leaves his fiancée overnight to be with Ilir. They promise to love each other for a lifetime.
But in the end, Ilir leaves the city and does not return.
criticism
Doris Kuhn writes at sueddeutsche.de : “ Beyond the Walls doesn't want to talk about a homosexual relationship, but about love. [...] Probably only outside of America is it still possible to tell a story about great passion, which gives self-determination a chance, the repeatability of emotions, and which does not believe in endless pain. Which is actually the more optimistic attitude for a love movie. "
Awards
Beyond the Walls ran in Cannes 2012 in the competition for the Golden Camera and won the Rail d'or. Hélène Girard was nominated for a Prix Jutra in 2013 for editing .
