Jeong Geumhyeong

Jeong Geumhyung ( Korean 정 금형 ) (* 1980 in Seoul ) is a performance artist , dancer and choreographer from South Korea. She lives and works in Seoul.

education

Jeong Geumhyung studied acting at Hoseo University in Cheonan , South Korea, and then dance and performance at the Korean National University of Arts and animation at the Korean Academy of Film Arts in Seoul .

In her work, she deals with the relationship between the human body and the objects that surround it. She uses common everyday objects for her interactions. In her pieces she combines dance and puppetry .

Performances & exhibitions

In 2015 she presented the performance Fitness Guide (2011) at the New Museum of Contemporary Art , New York , USA . Jeong wanted to draw attention to the role of the female body in a gender-based, exploitative economy.

She has also presented her work at numerous festivals, including the Zürcher Theater Spektakel ( Switzerland ), the ImpulsTanz Festival ( Vienna , Austria ), the Württembergischer Kunstverein ( Stuttgart ) and the PACT Zollverein ( Essen ).

Awards

In 2015 Jeong won the 16th Hermès Foundation Missulsang (Korean: 에르메스 재단 미술상), an initiative to promote young Korean artists. The price included a 4 month stay in Paris . There she was given the opportunity to work with experts to improve her handling of drones that she uses in her work. She also had a solo exhibition at Atelier Hermès , Seoul.
