Julie Giroux
Julie Ann Giroux-West (born December 12, 1961 in Fairhaven , Massachusetts ) is an American composer and arranger . She received two Emmy awards for orchestrating the Oscar awards.
life and work
Julie Giroux learned to play the piano as a child and began composing at the age of eight; at the age of 13 she created her first work for a wind orchestra . She later studied Horn at Louisiana State University ; then she went to Los Angeles , where she took composition lessons with Bill Conti . Since 1984 Giroux has also worked as a composer and arranger for film and television music, often with Conti. Between 1985 and 1999 she worked ten times as the orchestrator of the Academy Awards; In 1991 and 1992 she was awarded the Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music Direction . In 1990 she was nominated for it. This made her the first woman and the youngest winner in this category. She has also worked as an arranger for Celine Dion , Madonna , Little Richard and Michael Jackson , among others .
During her student days, Giroux published her first work for wind orchestra, Mystery on Mena Mountain . Since 1998 she has been working more intensively on the composition of wind orchestra works. In 2010 Giroux was named a member of the American Bandmasters Association . She has also created pieces for symphony orchestras and chamber music works as well as numerous arrangements for wind orchestra.
