Jeremia Tissarowski (secular name Eustathios ; * around 1570s; † March 1 July / March 11,  1641 greg. , Żołczów, Halitscher Land , Poland-Lithuania ) was Orthodox Bishop of Lwów (1607–1641).

Life

Eustathios Tissarowski came from a noble family. He received a good education, probably at the Orthodox Brotherhood School in Lwów.

In 1607 he was appointed Bishop of Galicia and Lwów , with the support of the Brotherhood of Lwów. The consecration was carried out by Metropolitan Anastasios of Moldova in Suceava , as there was no Orthodox Metropolitan in Poland-Lithuania since the Brest Union of 1596 . Since 1610, after the death of Bishop Michael von Przemyśl, he was the only Orthodox bishop in Poland-Lithuania. In 1614 he was appointed exarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople .

In 1620 he helped prepare the synod of Kiev, which elected the new Orthodox metropolitan Job . In 1625 he wrote a letter to the Russian tsar Michael I asking for support and financial donations. Bishop Jeremiah rejected the Synod of Kiev in 1629, which sought a merger of the Orthodox eparchies, monasteries and churches with the United Church . In 1631, after the death of Metropolitan Job, he was again exarch for Poland-Lithuania. In 1633 he took part in the ordination of Metropolitan Petro Mohyla .
