Jeremias Heinemann
Jeremias Heinemann (born July 20, 1778 in Sandersleben ; died October 16, 1855 in Berlin ) was a German author, orientalist , editor and translator.
Life
Heinemann was born in 1778 in the town of Sandersleben in Anhalt , where his father Joachim Heinemann was a rabbi . In 1808 he was appointed to the "Westphalian Consistory of the Israelites" in Kassel . After its dissolution, he became the school director in Berlin until he decided to become literary. In 1815 he received, as an exception and with waiver of high fees, the permission to set up a book and art shop, combined with a library under the company “Bureau für Literatur u. Art ” in Berlin. From 1817 he published Jedidja, a religious and educational magazine, of which eight issues were published in Berlin and Leipzig until 1831. From 1833 these publications appeared under the name New Series and finally as the General Archive of Judaism: Journal for Religion, Cultus, History, and Literature (Berlin, 1842–43).
Heinemann was married to Lea Cohn from Bielefeld and had four children. His brother Moses Heinemann translated the book Kohelet (Ecclesiastes Solomons) with grammatical and exegetical comments.
Jeremias Heinemann died in Berlin in 1855 at the age of 77. He was buried in the Jewish cemetery at Schönhauser Allee . The grave has not been preserved.
