Adolf Brull
Adolf Brüll ( April 27, 1846 in Kojetein , Austrian Empire - September 18, 1908 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a religious educator , religious scholar , theologian and editor .
Life
Adolf Brüll was born as the son of Rabbi Jakob Brüll (1812-1889) and his wife Regine Rivka (Rebecca), b. Trebitsch (1812–1898) born in Kojetein. His grandfather was the Moravian Oberlandesrabbi Neremias (Nahum) Trebitsch (1779–1842). Brüll received his training in Kremsier and at the universities in Vienna, Prague and Breslau. His theological training took place as a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau. In 1871 he was appointed as a teacher at the Philanthropin in Frankfurt am Main, where he taught until 1903. In 1879 he founded the Frankfurt Mendelssohn Association here on the occasion of the 150th birthday of Moses Mendelssohn . From 1881 he was the publisher of the popular scientific monthly papers on behalf of the Mendelssohn Association , for which he also wrote numerous articles. Brüll was a full member of the German Oriental Society , the scientific association of German Orientalists . He was also a member of the Frankfurt Freemason Lodge Zur Aufstieg Morgenröthe .
Adolf Brüll was the author of the Jewish Encyclopedia , the reference work on Judaism published by Isidore Singer between 1901 and 1906 . He also worked on the publication of the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie , for which he wrote 57 biographical articles on Jewish personalities between 1870 and his death.
The rabbi and scientist Nahum (Nehemias) Brüll (1843-1891) was his brother, a younger sister was Johanna Brüll (1848-1922).
