Jeroen Akkermans
Jeroen Akkermans (* 1963 ) is a Dutch journalist , foreign correspondent and documentary filmmaker .
Career
Akkermans began his career in 1990 as a producer, editor and reporter for RTL News' European editorial team in Luxembourg. He then worked as a correspondent in Moscow. He had previously gained experience at Super Channel , Reuters TV and European Business Today. Since 2001 he has been working from Berlin. For his reports and as a correspondent for RTL News, he traveled across Germany, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. In Russia he shot the documentary Geiseln des Gulag ("Gijzelaars van de Goelag").
From 1996 to 2001 Akkermans was a correspondent in London. On August 12, 2008, Akkermanns was wounded in the leg during a Russian bombing raid in the Georgian city of Gori . His colleague, 39-year-old cameraman Stan Storimans , was killed in the attack. In 2009, Akkermans came back to Georgia and made a documentary about the death of Storimans, summarizing the facts of the missile attack on August 12, 2008. Akkermans, along with the widow of Stan Storimans and Georgian survivors of the attack on Gori, sued Russia at the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg . In 2014, Akkermans also visited the site of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in eastern Ukraine several times , where he collected evidence in favor of a missile launch .
