Jerome Darr
Jerome Darr (born December 21, 1910 in Baltimore , † October 29, 1986 in Brooklyn , New York City ) was an American guitarist in the fields of blues , R&B and jazz .
biography
Jerome Darr began his musical career in a "youth" band, the Washboard Serenaders (1933-36), with whom he toured Europe and played in several music films. He participated in numerous rhythm and blues and blues sessions in the 1940s, for example in the R&B bands of Jimmy Wright and Freddie Mitchell, and in the 1950s with the vocal band Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers and with champion Jack Dupree (1955 ). Darr played for several years in Buddy Johnson's R&B band and was also active as an accompanist for recordings of bebop musicians, for example with Paul Quinichette ( The Vice Pres ) in 1953 and with Charlie Parker's last studio session in March 1954 (“I Get A Kick Out Of You "). In 1960 he worked with Rex Stewart ( The Happy Jazz ) and finally with Jonah Jones , with whom he was heard on the 1972 Earl Hines album Back on the Street .
