Jerome Spiegel Kohlberg, Jr. (born July 10, 1925 in New York - † July 30, 2015 in Martha's Vineyard , Massachusetts ) was an American businessman and billionaire. Kohlberg was a co-founder of the private equity company Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

education

Kohlberg attended New Rochelle High School in New Rochelle before going to Swarthmore College . There he did a Bachelor of Arts . He later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a master's degree in law from Columbia Law School .

In 1986 he founded the Philip Evans Scholarship Foundation at Swarthmore College .

Career

Kohlberg worked for the US investment bank Bear Stearns together with Henry Kravis and George Roberts , who together founded the Kohlberg Kravis Roberts investment company, which specializes in leveraged acquisitions in 1976 . In 1994 Kohlberg got out and left the management to his son James Kohlberg .

Kohlberg got involved socially through the Kohlberg Foundation . In 2006 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Kohlberg was married and had four children. His wife Nancy runs the restaurant The Flying Pig ( German: The flying pig) in Mount Kisco .
