Jersey is the name for a piece of clothing . This is worn as a shirt , sweater or polo shirt with long arms. In contrast to a cardigan , a jersey has no opening on the front. Jerseys are worn in various sports , including to indicate that they are part of a team .

The name probably comes from the largest and most famous of the Channel Islands , Jersey .
