Jerzy Hawrylewicz (born December 22, 1958 in Stettin , †  February 13, 2009 in Westerstede ) was a Polish football player .

Life

Jerzy Hawrylewicz played in various clubs in his hometown of Szczecin and became Polish runner-up in 1985 with his club, Pogoń Stettin . He left communist Poland and came to VfB Oldenburg in the amateur Oberliga Nord during the winter break of the 1987/88 season . There he was the team's most successful goalscorer with 15 goals in 32 appearances and in 1990 he made it to the 2nd Bundesliga .

In the 2nd Bundesliga he made a total of eleven appearances. When he was in the second men's team on April 20, 1992, the then 33-year-old suffered a heart attack during the game against Hannoversche SC on the pitch and had to be reanimated by coach Klaus-Peter Nemet . During the cardiac arrest, his brain was undersupplied with oxygen for a few minutes and suffered great damage as a result, whereupon he suffered from Apallic syndrome for his entire life .

In 1995 he was released from the rehabilitation clinic and has been cared for by his wife Ewa ever since. Since then there had been a number of benefit events for Hawrylewicz . In addition to old and new players from VfB Oldenburg , the Polish boxing world champion Dariusz Michalczewski and FC Bayern Munich in particular stood up for him.

Jerzy Hawrylewicz died at the age of 50, leaving behind his wife and three children.
