Jesse Thomas Lacey (born July 10, 1978 in Long Island , New York ) is an American musician. He is the singer, guitarist, songwriter, front man and sometimes pianist for the band Brand New .

Life

Jesse Thomas Lacey was born as the second oldest of seven children to parents Thomas and Sandy Lacey. Lacey grew up in a Christian family and attended a Christian private school. He later attended General Douglas MacArthur High School with John Nolan. This convinced him to learn bass and together the two founded several bands, including Taking Back Sunday . Lacey can be heard on their first self-titled EP and the following EP LUllaby (both 2001). However, the two fell out after John Nolan Lacey teased his girlfriend.

Together with Garrett Tierney and Brian Lane, he first founded The Rookie Lot. Together they released a demo tape and a split 7 '' with Yearly. When Vincent Accardi joined, Brand New was born. At around the same time, Brand New and Taking Back Sunday released their debut albums. There is a discreet on both of them that reflects the separation of the two former friends: Jesse Lacey wrote Seventy Times 7 and Taking Back Sunday published There's No I in Team .

Together with Brand New, Lacey released five studio albums. By 2005, Lacey was experiencing many personal and health problems. During this time the band took a short break. In 2008 he and his band mates founded the independent label Procrastinate! Music traitors .

Solo and guest appearances

In 2004 Lacey had his first solo appearances in which he played cover versions and brand new material. Together with his wife Andrea he recorded the song In Spite of Ourselves by John Prine .

In 2005 began a long collaboration with Kevin Devine . Jesse Lacey can be heard on three songs from his third studio album Split the Country, Split the Street . In July 2007 and 2008 the two toured together. He can be heard on the song Tomorrow's Just Too Late on the 2009 album Brother's Blood . In 2013 he produced Divine's album Bubblegum . In 2016 a joint 7 '' split was released under the title Devinyl Splits No. 6 on the Bad Timing Records label.

He had another guest appearance on the album This Is a Landslide by Intramural .

accusations

In November 2017, Lacey was accused of requesting nude photos of a then 15-year-old girl in 2002. Both had met at a concert by his band Brand New. The woman also accused Lacey of pushing her to watch him masturbate. A little later, another woman spoke up who claimed to have also been molested by Lacey on the Internet at the age of 16 , so he is said to have asked her about nude photos, among other things. Lacey published a lengthy statement on his Facebook page in which he apologized for the incidents and asked for forgiveness. As a consequence of the allegations, the band canceled a planned tour through Great Britain and Ireland after several planned support bands had previously withdrawn their participation.

Private life

Jesse Lacey is married to Andrea King, a well-known seamstress. The couple have a daughter together.
