Jesse Van Zant

Jesse Van Zant ( Jesse Hamilton Van Zant; born January 8, 1923 , † April 23, 1998 ) was an American long-distance runner who specialized in the marathon .

In 1948 he finished third in the Boston Marathon with his personal best of 2:36:53 h . In 1948 he was eighth and 1950 second in the Yonkers Marathon .

In 1951 he was fourth at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires over 10,000 m . In Yonkers he won in 2:37:13 and was thus US champion, in Boston he was tenth. The following year he finished eighth in Yonkers.

In road running , he was US champion over 30 km in 1949 and over 20 km and 25 km in 1950. He won four times in the Bay to Breakers race (1953–1955, 1957).
