Yevgeny Alexandrovich Lansere (also Eugen Lanceray , Russian Евгений Александрович Лансере ; born August 12 . Jul / 24. August  1848 greg. In Morshansk , Tambov Governorate , † March 23 jul. / 4. April  1886 greg. In Kharkiv ) was a 19th century Russian sculptor.

Life

Lansere came from a family who had come to Russia from France. His grandfather Paul Lanceray, a major in Napoleon's army, had stayed in Russia and was naturalized here.

He studied with the animal sculptor Nikolai Ivanovich Lieberich and specialized in the representation of horses and riders. In his short creative period he created over 400 statuettes on this subject. In search of appropriate motifs, he traveled annually to the interior of European and Asian Russia, and in 1883 also to Algeria . Felix Chopin's foundry and later also the Stange and Tula foundries produced his works in larger series as reproductions. His son Yevgeny Yevgenyevich Lansere became a painter and graphic artist after completing his studies in Paris and, from 1911, head of the Russian State Gemstone Mill in Peterhof .
