Evgeny Iosifovich Michalski ( Esperanto : Eŭgeno Miĥalski; Russian : Евгений Иосифович Михальский; pseudonyms : Torentano, Revulo, Profetivski * 21st January 1897 in Letitschew , Russian Empire ; † 14. October 1937 in Kiev , Soviet Union ) was an Esperanto poet and Worker Esperanto activist .

biography

Michalski became an Esperantist in 1911. In 1917 he founded the Esperanto literary magazine Libera Torento in Saratov , in which his first own poems in Esperanto and his first translations into Esperanto appeared. He became a member of the Sennacieca Asocio Tutmonda at an early age and worked for the magazines Sennacieca Revuo , La Nova Epoko , Bulteno de SEU (magazine of the Sovetlanda Esperantista Unuiĝo , the Soviet Esperanto Association), and later for the Internaciisto and La Nova Etapo . Professionally, he worked as a teacher and librarian.

Michalski was a co-founder of the Internacia Asocio de Revoluciaj Esperantaj Verkistoj (IAREC, International Association of Revolutionary Esperanto Writers) in 1931 and played a central role in the reactivation of the association in 1934. At that time, with the help of Honoré Bourguignon, he ran the magazines Proleta Literaturo and Internacia Literaturo .

Some of his works have also been translated into Ukrainian .

Michalski was arrested by the NKVD on March 16, 1937, on unsubstantiated accusation of being involved in an anti-Soviet Trotskyist organization, sentenced to death on October 14 of the same year , and shot the following day. He was rehabilitated on May 8, 1958.
