Yevgeny Nikolajewitsch Schaposhnikov ( Russian Евгений Николаевич Шапошников ; at the World Chess Federation FIDE Evgeny Shaposhnikov; born June 1, 1981 in Saratow ) is a Russian chess player .

Career

Shaposhnikov learned the rules of chess from his father. Started chess at the age of six and became a first-class player at the age of eight. After finishing school, he completed his psychology studies at the Saint Petersburg State University in 2003 . He was trained by Andrei Lukin and Konstantin Assejew .

Already in the youth sector he could show notable successes. In 1993 he won the U12 Youth World Cup in Bratislava , where he left opponents like Lewon Aronjan and Francisco Vallejo Pons behind. 2001 Shaposhnikov won the Russian U20 individual championship in Kazan .

At the St. Petersburg City Championship in 1999 he was first. The next year he took second place behind Valery Loginov . With the SGSEU team, he won the Russian team championship for students several times. Shaposhnikov won the championship of the Volga Federal District in 2006. In 2008 and 2010 he took third place. In between, he finished second in 2009, half a point behind Ildar Chairullin .

In 2004 he was awarded the title of Grand Master by FIDE . He achieved the standards for this at the Czech Open 2002 in Pardubice , the Aeroflot Open 2003 in Moscow and the St. Petersburg 300 Open 2003.

Schaposhnikov played club chess in Russia for the Chess Club Murmansk , St. Petersburg-2 and Economist SGSEU-2 (Saratow).
