Yevgeny Alexejewitsch Schmagin

Yevgeny Alexejewitsch Schmagin ( Russian Евгений Алексеевич Шмагин ; born December 30, 1949 in Ostashkow , Kalinin Oblast ) is a former Russian diplomat .

Life

In 1972 Schmagin finished his studies at the Faculty of International Economic Relations of the Moscow State Institute for International Relations . He then entered the civil service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR. Among other things, he was posted to the Representation of the USSR in West Berlin and from 1980 to 1986 to the Embassy of the USSR in the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn . During this time, he became friends with the Green politician and peace activist Petra Kelly . Another diplomatic station took Schmagin to the embassy of the USSR in Vienna; after all, he worked in the Russian State Duma until 1996 . Schmagin then acted intermittently until 2010 as deputy director in the departments for human resources, cultural relations and UNESCO affairs, as well as foreign policy planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation . From 1997 to 1999 he was head of the branch office of the Russian embassy in Berlin , from 2002 to 2006 the Russian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan . Since 2005 he has held the diplomatic rank of “Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary”. From June 22, 2010 Schmagin was the Russian consul general in Bonn and retired in this capacity in spring 2015.

Schmagin is married to a biology teacher and has a daughter and a son.
