Yevsei Lvovich Zeitlin

Jewsei Lwowitsch Zeitlin ( Russian Евсей Львович Цейтлин , scientific transliteration Evsej L'vovič Cejtlin ; * 1948 in Omsk / Siberia ) is a Russian literary scholar and writer.

Life

Zeitlin studied journalism and Russian literature. He was a university professor and spent many years traveling to research the life of Kyrgyz villagers, Siberian shamans or the dying northern peoples. In 1987 he began to record the stories of Soviet Jews.

For his book Long Conversations in Expectation of a Happy Death , in which he documents the life stories of Lithuanian Jews, Zeitlin lived in Lithuania between 1990 and 1997 .

Zeitlin is editor-in-chief of the religious-political-cultural-historical newspaper "Schalom" in Chicago , where he has lived since 1996.
