Daniela Dahn
Daniela Dahn , b. Daniela Gerstner , also Daniela Zimmer, (born October 9, 1949 in Berlin ) is a German journalist and writer with a focus on essay writing .
Life
Daniela Dahn is a daughter of the journalist Karl-Heinz Gerstner and the set designer ( DEFA ) and fashion journalist Sibylle Boden-Gerstner , founder of the GDR fashion magazine Sibylle . Her younger sister was Sonja Gerstner . At the age of nine she took on the lead role in the DEFA children's film An Unusual Day under her maiden name Daniela Gerstner .
Daniela Dahn studied at the journalism section in Leipzig until 1973 and then worked as a television journalist for youth television and the business magazine Prisma . In 1981 she resigned “so as not to lose self-respect”. She has been working as a freelance writer since 1982. In 1989, Dahn was one of the founders of the GDR opposition group Democratic Awakening . She later withdrew from it after it approached the CDU. She was a member of the commission of inquiry into the police attacks on October 7 and 8, 1989 in Berlin.
Dahn went on several lecture tours to the USA and gave lectures at various universities.
The PDS presented Dahn in 1998 as one of its two candidates for the office of constitutional judge in Brandenburg ; in December, however, it failed to achieve the required two-thirds majority in the Brandenburg state parliament. Originally, Dahn's candidacy was welcomed in the SPD , but the SPD parliamentary group at the time soon made numerous accusations. For example, falsified quotes were used against Dahn and she was accused of playing down the Waldheim trials . Prime Minister Manfred Stolpe (SPD), however, spoke out in favor of Dahn.
She is a member of the writers' association PEN and on the advisory board of the Humanist Union . In addition, Dahn was co-editor of the weekly newspaper Freitag and a supporter of the surveillance-critical data protection demonstration freedom instead of fear . She is the deputy chairwoman of the Willy Brandt Circle and a member of the international commission of inquiry “Fundamental Rights and Globalization”. Her husband Joochen Laabs was Vice President of the PEN Center Germany from 1999 to 2001 . Dahn's daughter is the director Laura Laabs .
Daniela Dahn publishes in the biweekly magazine Ossietzky (named after Carl von Ossietzky ), of which she is co-editor.
She supports the Gathering Movement .
