The Ludwig Börne Prize is an award from the Ludwig Börne Foundation, based in Frankfurt am Main , for outstanding achievements by German-speaking authors in the areas of reportage , essay and criticism .

Objective and procedure

In 1993, the Frankfurt banker and journalist Michael Gotthelf, together with other private individuals who were not mentioned, founded a foundation that has since awarded the Ludwig Börne Prize to German-speaking authors every year. This is intended to commemorate the Frankfurt writer , revolutionary democrat and political journalist Ludwig Börne (1786–1837) and his work.

A judge named by the foundation's board of directors, a so-called juror, decides on the winner under sole responsibility. He also gives the laudation for the winner of the prize, which is endowed with 20,000 euros. The award ceremony will take place in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt .

In 2010, the foundation itself awarded the Börne Medal of Honor to Marcel Reich-Ranicki for the first time for his life's work.
