Quotes

  • “Between 1900 and 1933, synagogues in Germany gradually began to become part of the local landscape, despite previous controversies, especially in large cities. With the destruction of more than 1400 Jewish houses of worship during and after the Reichskristallnacht 1938 - including the Semper Synagogue in Dresden - this development came to an abrupt end and a German building type disappeared almost completely from the consciousness of the Germans. "(FAZ, 27 October 2008)
  • "Whoever builds a house wants to stay, and whoever wants to stay hopes for security." (On September 14, 1986 at the opening of the Jewish Community Center he designed in Frankfurt; according to FAZ, September 4, 2007)
  • "We have left the 20th century, but the 20th century has not left us." (July 18, 2005)
  • "After everything that happened between 1933 and 1945, it is normal that not everything is normal yet." (July 18, 2005)
