Jiří Baloun

Jiří Baloun (born March 27, 1961 in Prague ) is a Czech officer . He was promoted to major general on May 8, 2011 .

Life

Baloun attended the Military Technical University (Vysoká vojenská technická škola) in Liptovský Mikuláš (graduated in 1983) and the Brno Military Academy , where he received his doctorate in 1999 . He also trained at the National Defense University in Washington, DC (2007–2008).

Baloun began his military career in 1983 as leader of a radio relay train . In 1993 he moved to the staff and rose there within ten years to the staff chief department management; from 2003 to 2004 he was also head of the security department in the Ministry of Defense . In 2004 he became the chief communications and information systems department head of the Department of Defense and chief of the telecommunications force , which was finally followed in 2008 by his appointment as chief department head of armed forces planning at the Department of Defense.

From 1998 to 2001 Baloun served as a liaison officer for his country's representatives on the NATO Military Committee and in the Western European Union . Since October 2011 he has been a national representative in the NATO military committee and in the military staff of the European Union ; he replaced Jaroslav Kolkus on this post .

Jiří Baloun is married and has a father of two.
