Jim: The James Foley Story , also known as Jim Foley: Reality of Terror , is a 2016 American documentary directed by Brian Oakes . It premiered on January 23, 2016 as part of the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Documentary in 2017 .
The film tells the life of the American photojournalist James "Jim" Foley , who was killed in 2014 by ISIS terrorists.
The film was made by Foley's longtime friend Brian Oakes, who grew up together in New England near Lake Winnipesaukee .
criticism
The film was able to convince 91 percent of the critics at Rotten Tomatoes (of 22 critics in total, as of February 8, 2019).
