James "Jim" Barton (born March 3, 1956 in Lincoln County , Tennessee ) is a retired American sailor .
successes
Jim Barton took part in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta alongside Kent Massey as a crew member on the US Soling- class boat of skipper Jeff Madrigali . After ten races in the Fleet Race , they qualified with 36 points in second place directly for the semi-finals, which, like the rest of the final round, was held in the Match Race . They lost 3: 1 to the Russian boat, but defeated the British boat 3: 1 in the duel for third place, with which Barton, Massey and Madrigali won the bronze medal. Two years earlier, the crew in Helsinki had also won bronze at the World Championships.
