Jim Beam
Jim Beam is a whiskey brand of the Beam Suntory group. The bourbon whiskey Jim Beam White Label is known worldwide .
history
This type of whiskey has been made at the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont , Kentucky since 1795 . The founder of the distillery was Johannes Jakob Böhm , born on February 9, 1760, of German descent , who later renamed himself Jacob Beam . The whiskey he produced was known as bourbon , most likely named after Bourbon County in Kentucky. The drink was initially sold under the name Old Jake Beam from the Old Tub distillery .
Jacob's son David (1802-1854) and his grandson David M. Beam (1833-1913) expanded and moved the headquarters to the newly built railroad to Nelson County . The founder's great-grandson, Colonel James B. Beam (1864-1947), rebuilt the company after Prohibition in 1933 in Clermont, Kentucky, near his hometown of Bardstown . Other company directors were T. Jeremiah Beam (1899–1977) and his son James B. Beam Booker Noe (1929–2004).
Booker Noe's son, Fred Noe (* 1957), continues the family tradition and now runs the company.
At the beginning of 2014, Jim Beam was taken over by the Japanese spirits group Suntory , which is the largest whiskey manufacturer in Japan with brands such as Yamazaki , Hakushu, Hibiki and Kakubin, for around twelve billion euros.
sorts
In the distillation process, Jim Beam essentially produces two types of Bourbon - Jim Beam and (the brand that has existed since 1882) Old Grand Dad - and a rye whiskey . These are differentiated after storage by different blending of differently matured barrels, different storage times and the decision whether it is more of a single barrel or small batch or a mixture of many different barrels. Whiskey liqueurs get their additives after storage. Whiskeys based on the Old Grand Dad formula are mostly only available in the USA, while the high-priced whiskeys available in Europe come from specially selected Jim Beam barrels that have been stored for a particularly long time.
Jim Beam needs 500,000 barrels annually and produces 30 gallons of high wine each in two distillation columns per minute. The White Label is mixed from 1000 barrels, small batch varieties like Knob Creek from approx. 100 barrels. Jim Beam doesn't rotate kegs or change storage position. The distillery holds approximately 30% of all whiskey casks in Kentucky. The empty barrels still contain about three gallons of Bourbon and go wet to the Jameson Distillery in Ireland.
